If you are starting to play the tennis you need to know about tennis game rules first. Without knowing the rules of tennis you can’t play the game. Tennis is not a game that you pick the racket and start playing it. From service to points every thing requires to follow the certain rules. Some are the basic and simple rules of tennis and some are the official rules for the tournaments. All the rules have been defined by ITF.

Simple rules of tennis are the basic rules that are needed to be followed. The most basic rule is you need to put the ball in the opponent’s court. If you fail to do so the point is conceded. If the opponent fails to do so you gain a point. The ball should be returned before it gets the second bounce in court. The service should bounce within the service box and should be able to clear the boundary line. These are basic rules for playing tennis and are simple tennis rules for beginners understanding.

Rules for keeping score in tennis are a bit different from the rules of scoring in other games. Scoring tennis rules and scoring system describes that how a game is played. A tennis match contains odd number of sets (usually 3 or 5) that are predefined which in turn comprises of number of games. A game consists of winning four points (if deuce does not occur). Same player serves for the whole game. Both players start with love all. First point is referred to 15, 2nd to 30, third to 40 and then is the game point. If both players have a score of 40 then deuce occurs in which a player must win two consecutive points to win the game. In the final set sometimes a condition occurs when both player tie up on 6-6. The player who wins two consecutive points wins the game. In other sets if this kind of situation occurs, it is a tie break in which number of alternate serves are played to decide the winner of set.

Tennis doubles rules are a bit different from the singles play. In doubles the court width is more than the single court. The partner of the service receiver stands in the opposite box of the court. Players receive the serve alternatively. For a game a single player serves. He changes his side of the court after each point.

Rules of professional tennis are defined for the pro players. The rules for playing tennis remain same but they define what player can play in a particular tournament, what are the regulations to be followed. The rules like challenge the decision of referee are available in rules of professional tennis in pro tournaments. Complete rules of professional tennis are available on ITF or ATP official rulebook in which all the rules of professional tennis have been clearly defined.

Sometimes in the game of tennis you see players just playing without following tennis rules regulations. This is known as knocking which is used for the warm up. It has not any thing to do with the original game. In warm up knocking no service or extra exertion by the players is made.

Rules for tennis make the game more enjoyable to the players. ITF is the governing body of tennis and rules in tennis are made and supervised by the organization. ITF defines the official tennis rules for the game.
